Merino Muster - The Best Little Ski Race in the World! Watch cross country ski racers compete at New Zealand's home of Cross Country Skiing, Snow Farm NZ. This annual event is a must-do on any cross country skier’s bucket list. It celebrates the annual mustering of the Merino Sheep off the high country at the end of each summer. The race is part of the Worldloppet Ski Federation with 19 of the greatest ski marathons around the world, from the over 100 year old Swedish Vasaloppet with 15,800 racers to the for the northern hemisphere exotic and far away Merino Muster in New Zealand. The Merino Muster brings international ski races and Olympians to Wanaka and exposure to the sport of cross country skiing. Encouraging novice skiers of all ages to finish the season with a memorable achievement and inspire youth to give it a go are goals of the event. Four distances between 7km - 42km are on offer. Fun for all the family from the dedicated skier to total novice. The fifth race, the Mini Merino for children under 10 years, is always a show stopper! Kids as young as 3 are part of this. International and national participants as well as the volunteer event crew soon enjoy the unique Merino Muster family atmosphere and will come back year after year.
