Membership Terms

Requirements for registration

1. Any non-profit, charitable organisation, or group offering volunteer placement can register as a member with Volunteer South provided that these groups have reasonable volunteer programme policies, or are actively working towards creating and implementing these policies.
2. Social enterprises or other entities/ groups / joint ventures can apply for membership provided that the majority of their profit or surplus is reinvested in a mission that is social, cultural or environmental.
3. We cannot approve roles offered by individuals who are not acting on behalf of a community organisation.
4. Volunteer South will only accept membership from organisations that have a current health and safety policy and plan and appropriate insurance to cover volunteer roles. All volunteers must be orientated to the organisation and their roles – this must include a health and safety induction.
5. Member organisations are expected to provide all volunteers with job descriptions, training, supervision, support, recognition and the reimbursement of agreed out-of-pocket expenses
6. Organisations not conforming to legislation on human rights will not qualify for membership
7. Organisations should treat all volunteers equally and with respect
8. Volunteer South collates limited information from volunteers registering with organisations online, therefore screening and final acceptance of volunteers is the organisations responsibility.
9. Volunteers will be connected to organisations to supplement, extend or reinforce services. Volunteers must not take the place of paid staff or fill positions for which funding is available or was a paid position within the previous six (6) months
10. To the full extent permitted by law, the liability of Volunteer South for any act or omission on the part of a volunteer is hereby excluded.
11. Volunteer South reserves the right to decline membership to, or to remove or suspend membership of, organisations that do not meet the above criteria.
12. Volunteer South has a partnership with Social Impact Studio | UniCrew volunteers and volunteer roles with be shared between the two organisations. If you do not wish to share your volunteer opportunities with students, please check the box in the application form.
