The Wanaka Rowing Club provides sustainable, competitive and social rowing pathways that challenge and educate members. They are a club that is recognised for its inclusiveness and success, while developing hauora (well-being). They are looking for a rowing coach to help develop basic technical skills for new rowers - both juniors and adults.

Tasks: Technical development on the water when able and otherwise technical development on the erg and basic stretching, core and body weight exercises when weather is inclement. We would also look to give an experienced coach their own crew to develop. Located at the new Wanaka watersports facility on the Lakefront in Wanaka.

Requirements

We are seeking people with the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum 3 years rowing experience at Club level or higher. Preferably some coaching experience.
  • Able to drive a safety boat - training in water safety will be given
  • Friendly, fun personality
  • Approachable and well organised
  • Must be fit
  • Some experience coaching another code at a higher level, if not rowing
  • Preferably can drive a vehicle with a tow ball - able to tow a coach boat to the lake- boat and retrieve. 
  • Must be able to swim

Time commitment

Whenever time permits - the new beginners group are rowing on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 4.45pm - 6.30pm and Saturday mornings from 8.45am - 10.00am. There are also a number of people wanting to row during the daytime. The duration of the commitment is flexible however continuity with crew or individuals is preferable. Volunteers would ideally be available for 2-3 sessions a week but we would be happy if you could commit to one a week.
