Horse Riding Assistant

Dunedin RDA is one of 50 Riding for Disabled groups around New Zealand. They are affiliated with the New Zealand Riding for Disabled Association. Their mission is to provide confidence, independence and well-being for people with disabilities through therapeutic horse riding and horse care. The Dunedin Group RDA (DRDA) was established in 1973. They now have our own land in Fairfield, Dunedin. Come join our riding sessions here at Dunedin RDA.

As a Horse Riding Assistant you will be:

  • Helping to set up for the lesson (tack/props etc)
  • Assisting the riders with horse care/grooming
  • Leading the horses during the session: Side-walking
  • Assisting riders with their balance whilst on the horse
  • Untacking and putting the horses away for the day
  • Volunteer under the supervision and guidance of their amazing RDA coaches
    (They only need rider assistants during term time)

Training provided:

  • Believe it or not - Horse experience isn't even necessary for the role - all training is provided by the RDA Coach

Requirements

  • All training is provided
  • Physically fit and able to do leading and side-walking
    (can involve much walking over uneven ground)
  • Committed and reliable
  • Eager to learn
  • Level-headed with a sense of fun
  • Be at least 14years of age

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Tuesday, Thursday or Friday 9am - 1pm | ideally pick one day each week
