The Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust's mission is to reduce suicide in Aotearoa by supporting people at risk of suicide and their families/whanau. They do this through the provision of community education (delivering mental health and safeTALK suicide prevention workshops to increase awareness and reduce stigma). They also provide safe spaces and bereavement support to whānau who have experienced a suicide and engage in local and national advocacy. Life Matters operate on the core values of Inclusivity, Respect, Empathy and Integrity.

The Trust currently requires someone to help them raise funds so they can continue to:

  • Provide ongoing support through the Hope Centre | Te Whare Tūmanako
  • Provide subsidised counselling for people who may otherwise be unable to access help
  • Enable the Trust to provide bereavement support
  • Continue to deliver community education around suicide awareness and prevention
  • To bring speakers and run events to Dunedin

As a Fundraiser you will use your skills to:

  • Organise a variety of fundraising opportunities
    (Social Gatherings, Organising Street Appeals and Organise Fun Events)
  • Bring your creativity and ideas to work collaboratively on fun events that will bring critical funds to the trust
  • Arrange group walks, quiz nights, movie nights, givealittle fundraisers, sausage sizzles, and other new/unique events
  • Follow the Cash handling procedures

As a fundraiser for the Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust you will be helping the Trust to continue its vital Community Education work as it continues to support the lives of vulnerable people through its Hope Centre, safe spaces and other services.

Requirements

Complete the initial induction which includes:

  • Education about the work of the trust and the services offered at the Hope Centre
  • Learning the processes around cash handling
  • Education on how to handle conversations with the public around sensitive topics such a suicide
  • Discussion around the expectations and responsibilities of the trust in relation to the volunteer

Further requirements:

  • Personal values that align with inclusivity, respect, empathy and integrity
  • Ability to organise fun events
  • Motivated to work collaboratively with others
  • Basic administrative and computer skills
  • Previous fundraising experience would be beneficial
  • Honesty is a quality that is required

Time commitment

  • Initial Induction: Up to 3 hours
  • Flexibility to work around your schedule
