The Hangout Youth Centre is a vibrant and lively free drop in space for youth throughout the community who are aged between 11-18 years old (or who are in attendance in grades 7 to 13). This role sees volunteers spend the afternoon - 3pm until 5:30pm - engaging with young people in an informal setting focused on providing a safe and supportive environment for all youth. Volunteers can join in pool table games, creative arts, cooking/baking, chatting, watching movies, playing music, enjoying card games and so many more chilled and relaxing activities with the young people who attend.
The role of 'Youth Centre Volunteer' involves a person who is willing to be a good role model for young people through positive actions. Listening and guiding are two important principals that assists in the positive relationship between an adult and young person. Throughout the time The Hangout Youth Centre is open, a volunteer will be required to have fun and engage with the young people to ensure they know they are in a safe and supportive environment where they have trusting adults who are there to support them when and if needed.
Volunteers will be supported at all times by skilled and trained Youth Workers who can provide guidance and support. Cromwell Youth Trust will
offer opportunities for volunteers to attend training/workshops that can help them develop their skills but costs will not be covered by Cromwell
