One of the many services the Salvation Army provides in Alexandra is the food bank.  Alexandra New World generously donates credits (damaged or expired but still consumable groceries) which are put aside for collection by the food bank for needy people in our community.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Collect credits from Alexandra New World delivery area and pack into personal vehicle. 
  • Liaise appropriately and politely with New World staff to collect credits at the agreed time.
  • Transport credits to the food bank in Royal Terrace, Alexandra.
  • Unpack boxes and put items on shelves and/or in fridge/freezer.

Volunteers can gain:

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills including communication and empathy.
  • Tolerance and patience when working with others who may be busy.
  • Self satisfaction from knowing you are supporting people in need.

Requirements

Volunteers interested in the role must be/have:

  • Access to a safe and roadworthy vehicle that you are willing to use for this purpose and hold a current drivers licence.
  • Relatively good level of fitness to enable lifting of boxes.
  • Good communication.
  • Polite, respectful, honest, reliable.

Time commitment

Less than 1 hour on weekdays.

Volunteer South's office is closed from Friday 20th December until Monday January 6th. Many organisations listing roles online will also be taking a break. During this time your requests to connect will go through, however there may be some delay in you hearing from the organisations you select.
