Ripponburn Hospital & Home is an older style Residential Home. It consists of 25-bed hospital wing that has 24 hour Registered Nurse cover, with a mixture of single and double shared rooms, and a 21-bed rest home wing with mostly single rooms. Staff are committed to creating a homelike, happy atmosphere, as we want our residents to not only be comfortable, but most of all happy.

Their aim is to form a partnership with our Residents to ensure their Independence, Privacy, Dignity, Cultural and Religious needs are met as individuals.

Ripponburn have a pool of volunteers who interact with the residents based on mutual interests.  Activities can include things such as playing cards or games, doing crafts or projects; reading books, articles or newspapers, going on walks, activities or outings.

Volunteers establish a good rapport with the residents and staff to feel part of the team at Ripponburn. There are also a group of volunteers who provide entertainment such as choirs, musicians, dancers and school groups.

Volunteers improve their communication skills and gain knowledge about the community and individuals’ interesting lives.  Volunteers become valued member of the team and gain familiarity with the health working environment. Volunteers will also, we hope, gain satisfaction from enabling residents to be as independent as possible and from being involved in the community.
