The Alexandra Toy Library is a not-for-profit organisation, administered by a small group of dedicated volunteer committee. Their membership base inlcudes both families on annual membership rates and also casual and grandparent membership over the longer term.  Operating in a similar way to a public book library, they offer a range of quality toys, puzzles, games and learning activities for members to hire for a set period of time.

The Alexandra Toy library is a member of the Toy Library Federation of New Zealand.   Their vision is “Let the Children Play” with a mission statement "to actively promote play as being essential to the optimal educational, physical, psychological, social and cultural development of the child".

Committee members are being seeked to assist with the administration and planning of the Alexandra Toy Library.  This includes stock purchase and management, building maintenance and repairs, fundraising and planning.

There are a wide variety of tasks within the committee, they would love to hear from you to see what skills you are able to share.  Many of the tasks are able to be done at a time of your choosing and from home.  Most of the committee have young children and manage their tasks around their family obligations.

They are currently in need of people to help with secretarial duties and in the treasurer tasks.  This requires people to have good computer skills - training is available from experienced people.  They would love to hear from those who can bring new ideas and initiatives to our group.

Volunteers gain skills in building relationships, event planning, communication, fundraising, grant writing and many more.

Volunteers gain satisfaction from providing a service that enables our kids to experience a range of quality toys at an affordable and environmentally friendly way.

Many members build relationships with those they work with and gain friendships.  It is also a great way to involve your kids in being "special helpers".

Requirements

People interested in these positions need to have good written and oral communication skills and be able to work well with others.  Although we tend to attract people who love young children and their toys, this is not a prerequisite.  There are loads of kid-free tasks as well!

Ministry of Justice checks and / or reference checks may be required.

The time commitment varies depending on the tasks undertaken.
