Committee Member

Alexandra District Parents Centre is part of a nationwide voluntary organisation set up by parents for parents. They are a friendly group whose aim is to support parents in the community and offer fun learning and social activities for them and their children to enjoy.

Parents Centres share a vision of New Zealand being a society that values parenting as being fundamental to the well-being of all members of society and believe that parenting creates the environment that sews the fabric of our social structure. Education, support and services are focused on driving that vision.

Their mission is to bring about a society in which parents are highly valued in their role in the community through positive birth experiences and informed parenting and advocacy.

Committee members are being seeked to assist with the administration and planning of Alexandra parents centre activities. There are a wide variety of tasks within the committee, they would love to hear from you to see what skills you are able to share.  Conversely there are also several tasks that are available that would enable you to develop new skills that will look great on your CV.  Many of the tasks are able to be done at a time of your choosing and from home.

They are currently in need of people to help with secretarial duties and in the treasurer tasks.  This requires people to have good computer skills, the treasurer role also requires a knowledge of excel.  Full training is available from experienced people.  Other tasks include fundraising initiatives, planning events, organising rosters, organising meals and packs for new Mums, maintaining a social media presence and many more.  They are excited to welcome new ideas and initiatives.

Most committee members are parents with young children, however anyone is welcome.  You are welcome to bring your children along to meetings or any other activity and some funds are available for babysitting costs during meeting times if needed.

Volunteers gain skills in building relationships, marketing, event planning, people management, communication, fundraising and many more.  Volunteers gain satisfaction from providing fun affordable family initiatives for our community, and love seeing kids enjoying themselves.
