Dunedin Curtain Bank Trust are looking for two people to join their Board. Dunedin Curtain Bank up-cycles unwanted and unused curtains, lines them, and then distributes them to those in need in the community. Curtains make a significant difference to the warmth of a home and the health of its occupants.
Did you know that a third of all heat loss in an uninsulated home occurs through windows? At Dunedin Curtain Bank they collect, repair and reline donated curtains to those in need; including families, elderly and the disabled.
As a Board Member or Board Secretary you will be:
- Helping to provide governance oversight to the organisation
- Performing secretarial tasks such as the minute taking of meetings & AGM
- Sending minutes out in a timely manner
- Schedule meetings and send reminders to board members
- Contributing to discussions around DCBT operations
- Working collaboratively to problem solve
- Helping to manage Human Resources effectively
- Contributing to the discussion on Health and Safety and Compliance
Training provided:
- You will be provided with an orientation re the organisation's history and current operations
- You will become familiar with the Dunedin Curtain Bank's organisational processes

Requirements
In particular, they are keen to hear from those have the following skills or experience:
- A commitment to the values and mission of the organisation
- Prior board experience is an advantage but not essential
- Must be able to attend board meetings in person
- Effective communicator and note taking skills
- Attention to detail
- Email communication (basic computer skills)
- A Human Resources or legal background is a plus
- Medical background or research knowledge/experience is an advantage

Time commitment
- Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per month
- The board meets over the lunch hour on the third Friday of each month
- Ideally a 1 year minimum commitment

Committee & Board
Volunteer South's office is closed from Friday 20th December until Monday January 6th. Many organisations listing roles online will also be taking a break.
