Dunedin Multicultural Council is a not for profit organisation that works to support multicultural communities in Dunedin, by enabling people to openly express their commitment and pride in NZ while, at the same time, protecting and sharing their ethnic heritage and identity.

The role involves:

  • ON THE DAY: Attending gardening sessions held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month (You can choose to run one session a month)
  • Physically able to perform basic gardening tasks
  • Someone to help a small group of people to run monthly sessions - from 10am to 12noon
  • Organising snacks and beverages for workers
  • Putting out the tools, and coordinating the session to make it a fun social ocassion for all
  • MARKETING: Spread awareness of the community garden, by distributing flyers, talking to different community groups (migrant and refugee)
  • Manually helping with the upkeep of the garden

Requirements

  • Orientation/training (we'll show you what to do)
  • Basic coordination skills
  • Keen to help
  • People and communication skills
  • Able to perform basic gardening tasks: bending, kneeling, twisting, pivoting, clasping, pulling, weeding
  • Ability to use basic gardening tools

Time commitment

  • 2 - 3 hours per month (Gardening)
  • 1 -2 hours per month (Marketing: raising awareness through flyer drops and talks)
  • Working bees are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month
  • 10 to 12 noon with a cuppa afterwards. You can run one session a month
