Com2Tech Community Volunteer

Com2Tech aims to work alongside communities to help reduce the barriers of digital inclusion; create safe spaces within our communities where people can go to get local technology support; and to help our children and their counterparts utilise their knowledge of technology for the good of their communities.

They offer free drop-in sessions for the community to come along and get help with their digital skills. In this role, volunteers might engage in the following tasks:

  • Work within a drop-in centre space to provide support with the option of utilising a course framework.
  • Work closely with community members to assist them in the set up and use of their devices.
  • Support the participants in becoming confident with the use of their devices independently (from laptops to tablets to smartphones)
  • Give advice on purchasing appropriate devices for the person.

You will receive an orientation and any training necessary before you begin the role.

This role will increase your communication skills, particularly when working with community members, but also working within a team. Language and descriptive skills will also be learned and you will need to be patient with a good sense of humour. Your support will help community members be more connected and feel more confident in using technology, making a difference for life!

Neighbourhood Digital Resilience
Com2Tech works with many community centres who are keen for digital support drop-ins, but they are time poor. If you're keen and have the necessary skills, they might train you to support your local community centre or group, and you can play a part in building digital resilience within your own neighbourhood.

  • They will support you with safety checks, digital and teaching resources.
  • You will be connected with a network of people with IT skills, who support each other to problem solve the curly questions and grow your own knowledge.
  • This way, if you can't fit into their current programme times, you might be able to create your own to respond to your neighbourhood's local need!
