Living Options is a well established activity day centre in Alexandra for people from all over Central Otago with intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities. They provide a range of recreational and educational opportunities and training in life and social skills. Activities include a weekly cafe where they can develop their cafe skills, friendship groups, art, music groups and gardening. Volunteers are needed to help the Living Options clients with their lunch making life skills.

As a Lunch Supporter you will:

  • Support people to prepare food from their lunch boxes that they bring to Living Options and present on a plate so they can enjoy their lunch with others.
  • Work alongside individuals to do the necessary chopping, toasting, heating so they can learn these skills themselves.
  • Get to know people's individual lunch needs such as portion size, food consistency and temperature.
  • Assist with gathering up, washing/sterilising dishes and lunchboxes.

Volunteers will gain satisfaction in knowing they are making an invaluable contribution to the lives of the people they are supporting, and helping grow their independence.

Requirements

This role would suit someone who:

  • has a willingness to work with people with a range of disabilities and other health challenges
  • is positive and has a can-do attitude
  • has a good sense of humour
  • is patient and kind
  • is able to be flexible on the day, and be open to individuals preferences and needs
  • is prepared to work within the health and safety requirements of Living Options

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • 11.45am - 1.00pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Individual commitment could be 1x weekly or more
  • Welcome to bring your own lunch to eat with the group
