Age Concern Queenstown provides support, information, education and advocacy for people living in the Wakatipu basin who are 65 years and older.
They offer two main activity groups:
- social/coffee groups each month; in Arrowtown and Frankton – and one just for the men – in Frankton.
- Exercise groups on Thursdays, the program is preset, and you would just need to follow along with it.
As the group activity facilitator, you will:
- Create a welcoming environment in the group through conversation
- Assist with transportation to and from the venue (cafes/pub)
- Be ready to assist with mobility problems (e.g. use a walking frame or walking stick)
- Ensure the clients get safely in and out of the
- Engage in conversation with the clients so they can enjoy the activity
- Gain satisfaction in knowing you are making a difference in the lives of clients
- Be a vital part of minimising their social isolation
- Have a chance to connect with the older generation in the community
You will receive training from their coordinator, and when you are comfortable, be able to run the group independently or with another volunteer.

A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- Coffee groups monthly
- Exercise program run every Thursday at 11am in Arrowtown, and 1:30pm in Frankton for an hour each
- Volunteer as often as you like
- Regular commitment is appreciated
