KiwiHarvest reduces the negative impacts of food waste on our environment by redistributing excess food; helping to create lasting positive social change by nourishing those in need. By providing food support to the community, they enable people to live an independent life.
They are now looking for volunteers to use their new e-bike to collect food from cafes and bakeries in Queenstown CBD. This is the role for you if you are keen to give up an hour-ish of your day to complete the food rescue rides every Monday, Wednesday or Friday, ideally mid morning-ish but timing can be flexible if needed.
The bike will be stored securely in the Queenstown CBD area and you will have access to it and the safety gear (own helmets are fine) You’ll be given a run-sheet which tells you which cafes to visit. The bike will have built-in storage for the food and when you return the bike you’ll just need to leave the food at the clearly marked collection point ready for their truck driver to collect later that day - Simple!
It’s an E-bike so any small hills will be a breeze and it’s a fun way to get outdoors and be involved in a worthwhile community cause. They estimate the ride should take around one hour to complete so whether it’s your break or your day off, you’ll have plenty of time left to get on with the rest of your day, feeling good after your good deed!
