SPCA is a voluntary organisation set up by the people in the community who are interested in and want to do something about the welfare of animals. “We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves”

The SPCA is looking for enthusiastic and passionate volunteers who care about the welfare of all animals, and giving pre-loved items a new life.

The role includes greeting customers and general awesome retail customer service. Full training will be supplied and duties will include:

  • use of our POS/EFTPOS system
  • tiding the shop, stockroom and change rooms
  • merchandising and rotating stock,
  • sorting and grading donations - including clothing, homeware, linen, books, bric-a-brac, etc.
  • cleaning donated stock, the shop and storeroom facilities
  • assisting customers with donation
  • other duties as required and agreed

If you can donate your time to our cause, it is as important to us as any physical donation, as without the generous support of our community we would not be able to continue the good work the SPCA has done in New Zealand over the past 125 years

Requirements

Volunteers need to be 18 and over.

A general level of physical fitness is required and all volunteers are required to complete a mandatory Health and Safety induction including lifting techniques. Please note that this position may not be suitable for persons with allergies.

Some retail or Op Shop experience would be advantageous, but not essential.

Volunteers will gain an insight into retail, enjoy being part of the team of volunteers, meeting customers and gaining satisfaction from raising money for the SPCA.

Time commitment

Ideally the minimum commitment is one shift of 4 hours a week, but multiple shifts would be great. Working days and hours can be flexible and we will work to suit you where we can. We are open six days a week, and work on a roster system one month in advance, with usually 2 x 4 hour shifts a day. This enables us to manage work loads and staffing levels more effectively.

Getting started

The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
