Activities Assistant - St Andrews care home

Presbyterian Support Otago

Practical Help

Activities assistant volunteers work alongside staff engaging residents in conversation, encouraging and supporting residents to join in activities like dominos, bingo, art, music and helping staff to prepare and serve afternoon tea. Residents love chatting and having a laugh with volunteers who bring a little bit of the outside world in with them, making conversation about things happening in the community, places you have been things you have done or noticed. You could spend time reading the paper or books, going for walks in the garden, chatting and laughing with residents.
You will receive a full orientation and training, you will always be working along side staff.
No two days are the same, 2hours goes very fast and it's rewarding.
In return you will get a ‘helpers high’. Volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins? This effect is known as ‘helper’s high’!
St Andrews is a hospital level aged care facility, consisting of 3 units each with 26 residents.

Please note; all our volunteers need to complete a Police Check. All volunteers will receive appropriate training and supervision for their role and will be required to sign a Code of Conduct. In accordance with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021, this volunteer work is required to be carried out by persons who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Evidence of vaccination will be required as a term and condition of engaging you as a volunteer and would need to be received before you could commence as a volunteer. You do not have to disclose your vaccination status if you do not wish to, however that would mean that we would need to treat your vaccination status as unvaccinated.

Volunteers need to have good balance, vision and hearing, able to walk around the home.
You will be provided with DHB facemask and rapid antigen test until COVID-19 restrictions ease.

A Police background check is required for this role.
