KiwiHarvest is Invercargill's food rescuer, moving surplus food from donors to charities and community groups working with the city's food insecure. Such a simple way to help protect our environment and do some social good - twice the feel-good factor!
As a driver you will:
- drive the food rescue vehicles to the various food donors and collect their food.
- redistribute this food to charities and community groups who are feeding those in need.
If you don't feel too comfortable driving a vehicle, there is the option of tagging along as a helping hand.
As a driver assistant you will:
- Accompany KiwiHarvest drivers on their collection rounds to local food donation sites
- Assist with deliveries to recipient agencies who distribute food.
- Mainly help with loading and unloading the vehicle
- Input data into the KiwiHarvest system.
All drivers and assistants will be inducted and taken on a trial run.
As a Vehicle Assistant you will:
- Contribute to protecting the environment from the adverse effects of food waste
- Help those in need in your local community
Requirements
- Positive attitude
- Physical fitness (including the ability to lift boxes up to 20kg)
- Some familiarity with a smart phone would be useful
Time commitment
Options as below, typical shifts would be 3-4 hrs, depending on your availability.
- Mondays (going to Gore) 3-4 hrs 8.45am – 12.45pm
- Wednesdays (Invercargill and Gore) 8:45am- 2:45pm (half or full day shift)
- Fridays (going to Gore or town) 3-4 hrs 8.45am – 12.45pm
- Collect school lunches weekly and delivering them to our local night shelters 2pm to 3.30pm
