Home Services Book Courier

Invercargill Libraries’ Home Services Office serves up to 110 patrons who are unable to visit our physical locations due to age or physical limitation. This crucial service would not be possible without the support of Volunteer Couriers.

As a Home Services Book Courier, you will:

  • Pick up book bags from either the Invercargill or Bluff Library
  • Exchange book bags in your patron’s home
  • Drop book bags back to the library
  • Act as a liaison between your patron and the library.

Volunteer Couriers often form lasting friendships with their patrons and some have been couriering for as long as 15 years! However, no matter how long you're able to commit for, please apply below to express your interest.

Requirements

You must:

  • Have your own transport
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be willing to chat with your patron if they would like you to
  • No experience is necessary
  • We provide an induction process

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Less than an hour per month is required.
  • Patrons don’t receive books more than once a month so you only need to be available every four weeks.
  • Times and days are flexible and will be discussed by you and your patron when you are matched by the Home Services staff.
