St Andrews Home and Hospital offers rest home and hospital level care and in a supportive community for residents, with friendly staff and freshly cooked meals creating a home-like atmosphere.
Friend of the Home, Resident Support volunteers get to know residents in the unit. Be that friendly face, while listening with a can do attitude.
What would you do?
- Help residents to make their room homely, change the water in the vase, return clean laundry to their room and tidy drawers and wardrobes as needed.
- Help residents with small projects
- Ensure residents are feeling at home and connected
- Chat, banter, laugh and build relationships
- Engage with residents in a friendly manner
- Give your time weekly, fortnightly depending your availability
- You will receive a full orientation and training
No two days are the same, 1 hour goes very fast and it's a wonderfully rewarding experience. Beware - you might experience a 'helper's high' as your volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins!
Requirements
- Able to work independently
- Organised
- Friendly, approachable
- Compassion, and understanding of the older persons needs
- Sense of humour, friendliness
- Patience and understanding of confidentiality
- Reliable and dedicated
- 18 years old and over
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- 1 hour
- Weekly, fortnightly or monthly
- The role will be carried out between 2:15 - 3.15pm
- Monday - Sunday, on a day that suits your availability
