GirlGuiding NZ aim to empower girls to take action to change their world. They are looking for Unit Leaders to fulfil the following duties:
- Attend and help run GirlGuiding youth membership meetings
- Facilitate different activities for the guides to learn various life skills and earn a badge for the same
- Activities vary with the badge and could involve crafts, bush walks, camping and games etc.
- Help shape this young generation of girls into strong, resilient young women with a vast skill set
Outside of the weekly sessions you will also:
- Help plan the term's activities and deliver them to the girls
- Complete occasional evening / weekend training as required
- Attend occasional leader / planning meetings, and trips or camps
- Meet new people and become part of a worldwide network
You will be given FREE leadership training, mentoring, and a uniform is provided. There is no personal cost to you to volunteer.
Choose a unit that best suits the day/times you are available:
- Wakatipu Guides - Frankton, Thursdays 6 - 8pm, (girls aged 9-12)
- Wakatipu Pippins - Frankton, Thursdays 5 - 6pm, (girls aged 5-7)
- Wakatipu Brownies - Frankton, Thursdays 5 - 6:45pm, (girls aged 7-9)
Requirements
To be a unit leader you will:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Can commit to do the role for six months or more
- Have a passion to inspire girls and young women to reach their full potential and learn new skills
- Be reliable and trustworthy
- Be encouraging, assertive and patient
- Be a hands-on leader and learner
- Have excellent communication skills, using a variety of channels and technologies
- If successful, be prepared, to obtain your Leadership Qualification and, in time take, over the running of the unit.
- Have some experience working with youth (preferred but not required)
- Be self-motivated and able to work autonomously but collaboratively within a wider team
- Have the ability to maintain a responsible attitude while possessing a sense of fun!
- Have the integrity to respect confidentiality and act with discretion
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- Attend and help run the unit meeting, for 1-2 hours each week, generally during term time.
- GGNZ requires volunteers who are prepared to offer a minimum six month commitment
- On average, 1 additional hour per week across the term to plan the programme with girls and leaders including camps, excursions and attend trainings.
- One-off compulsory initial training (1 hr online)
- Additional training is available, but is optional, depending on your role
