GirlGuiding NZ aim to empower girls to take action and change their world. They do this by using fun, adventure and friendship to build confidence and life skills. They are looking for Unit Leaders to fulfil the following duties:
- Attend and help run GirlGuiding youth membership meetings
- Facilitate different activities for the guides to learn various life skills and earn a badge
- Activities vary with the badge and could involve crafts, bush walks, camping and games etc
- Help shape a young generation of girls into strong resilient young women with a vast skillset
Outside of the weekly sessions you will also:
- Help plan the term's activities and deliver them to the girls
- Complete occasional evening / weekend training as required
- Attend occasional leader / planning meetings, and trips or camps
- Meet new people and become part of a worldwide network
You will be given FREE leadership training, mentoring, and a uniform is provided. There is no personal cost to you to volunteer.
Choose a unit that best suits the day/times you are available:
*Mosgiel Pippins - Wednesday 5 - 6pm, aged 5 - 7yrs
- Mosgiel Brownies - Wednesday 6:00pm - 7.30pm aged 7 - 9.5yrs
- Mosgiel Guides - Wednesdays 5:30pm - 7:00pm, aged 9-12.5yrs
Requirements
To be a unit leader you will:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a passion to inspire girls & young women to reach their full potential and learn skills
- Be reliable and trustworthy
- Be encouraging, assertive and patient
- Be a hands-on leader and learner
- Have excellent communication skills, able to use a variety of channels and technologies
- If successful, be prepared to obtain your Leadership Qualifications
(and in time, take over the running of the unit)
- Have some experience working with youth (preferred but not essential)
- Be self-motivated and able to work autonomously & also collaboratively within a wider team
- Have the ability to maintain a responsible attitude while maintaining a sense of fun!
- Have the integrity to respect confidentiality and act with discretion
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- GGNZ requires volunteers who can commit to at least a six month Volunteer role once onboarded on as a leader
- The roles available require about a 2 hour per week commitment for the meetings
- Outside of these hours you would also be planning a camp or event that would happen on the occasional weekend
