Parkrun started in 2004 in London with a group of friends, and it has grown to over 2,200 events across 22 countries with more than 8 million registered participants. Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings, and they encourage people of every ability to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; they welcome all.

Queenstown parkrun started in June 2018 and takes place every Saturday morning at 8am in summer (during daylight savings hours) and 9am in winter, starting and finishing in the picturesque Queenstown Gardens, followed by a post-event coffee at Yonder. They are looking for volunteers to take on the ongoing role of Run Director.

  • being the point of contact for the event on the day they are on duty.
  • deciding whether the event should be cancelled or postponed or that an adjustment to the course is needed, because of bad weather or other circumstances. (Such decisions will be taken with guidance from the Event Director and/or Event Ambassador but the Run Director has the final say)
  • overseeing that event results are provided to parkrun as soon as possible after an event has taken place and processed by 5pm on the day of the event

Expectations as a Run Director:

  • Support parkrun policies and procedures and management decisions.
  • Develop an understanding of each volunteer role, so they are able to carry out each role personally and be able to train volunteers as required.
  • Handle any incidents, complaints or issues from parkrunners or external parties at the event on the day
