The Araiteuru Marae' weekly community kitchen! Volunteers will have a range of tasks to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. Araiteuru also helps members of the wider community, including newcomers, to connect with each other and learn more about Te Ao Māori (Māori world/culture) at the same time.

The Pātaka Ora team would like to awhi as many people as possible for this position, from elderly, stay at home parents, families, unemployed/employed, single people, couples, rangatahi (youth), tamariki (children), homeless, organizations, people needing a friend, or someone to talk too, or whoever it is in our community that needs tautoko (support) or can give tautoko. Come and help be a part of this exciting project!
The theme each and every week is: "Life Enhancement".
We all have the ability to receive and give some of that.

As part of the Pātaka Ora support team you will help with:

  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere
  • Making people from all walks of life feel a sense of belonging
  • Helping to run the Community Soup Kitchen (alternating each Monday as a night service (prep starts at 3.30pm finished 8pm) or Lunch service (prep starts at 9.30am finished 2pm))
  • Creating menus from the donated food
  • Food Preparation
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Serving
  • Entertainment
  • Chatting to those who turn up on the day

    Providing koha or good quality 2nd hand give aways

Volunteers will get to:

  • Work together as a team
  • Be an important part of creating a friendly, inclusive and welcoming community
  • Help to provide a much needed collaborative space, using food as the vehicle for developing friendships, networks and connections
  • Learn more about Te Ao Māori
  • Build with a growing like-minded community

Time commitment

  • 1-4 hours, any spare time you have - come along and volunteer (we would greatly appreciate your support)
