Happiness House is a unique local community trust. Their mission is to facilitate community supporting community by offering social, emotional and practical support in our homely community centre. They have restarted their small community garden, which is as much about community as it is gardening! The intention of the garden is to be a space for people learn about growing for food, get into nature and connect with others.

They have an experienced volunteer lead gardener who is passionate about sharing their knowledge with others AND loves working with people.

Your role:

  • Help maintain a healthy, organic garden as part of a team
  • Work alongside the lead gardener and other volunteers and staff
  • Learn about gardening practices, or share your own tips
  • If you don't have prior experience, be able to follow simple directions and be open to learning
  • Be open-minded and respectful of all volunteers and staff
  • Meet people from varied backgrounds with a common interest in growing food!

The produce grown in the garden helps add to the food boxes prepared for individuals and families in need, and is also distributed amongst volunteers. You will be part of a team that helps support food security and creates a sense of safety and belonging for people in all kinds of circumstances.

Requirements

  • Genuine interest in supporting people in need
  • Open to learning and developing gardening skills
  • Happy to get your hands dirty
  • Physically able to stand/squat/bend for an amount of time as required
  • Happy to work as part of a team

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment
