MINT's Creative Programs provide opportunities for our members to experience the joy of creating, building something, learning a new skill, or discovering a new passion. MINT is providing a platform from which our members can pursue their varied creative interests, build their confidence and truly thrive as part of the wider community.

The Creative Hub is run out of the MINT Studio, located above Wanaka Community Workshop. The program runs on Mondays and Tuesdays, where members can enjoy a variety of creative activities led by their interests. In this role, you would be supporting adult members in a variety of ways such as:

  • help them engage in a creative activity run by the Creative Hub Facilitator
  • share your own skills and creative interests
  • activities can range across a variety of arts and crafts including painting, printmaking, sewing and woodworking, the list goes on!
  • offer patient and understanding support while they learn and create
  • assist in adapting techniques and materials to ensure programme participants can progress independently

Through all of the above volunteer roles you will:

  • play a key role in wonderful experiences for MINT members
  • meet and forge connections with a bunch of amazing people
  • develop new skills and understandings
  • feel fulfilled through your contribution to creating inclusive, purposeful experiences

Sewing sessions will be held at Fabricate, so if you have skills but no machine, you can still get involved!

For those keen to volunteer within the woodworking program, some woodwork skills would be ideal, however you will get basic training from a Woodwork Instructor before joining the sessions to support MINT members.

You will undergo a thorough induction with the passionate staff of MINT, who will always be there to support you in your role.

Requirements

They are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers who are:

  • Confident with art/craft materials and comfortable trying new things
  • Enthusiastic to share their skills
  • Open to working with people who may have communication difficulties
  • A willingness to get stuck in
  • Somewhat skilled in woodwork (for woodworking program) though basic training will be given

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

When:

  • Creative Programs run Monday between 12.30pm - 3.30pm and Tuesday 12pm to 4.30pm. Whether you can give 1-2 hrs or stay for the whole session, there is flexibility based on your availability.

There are a variety of sessions some run weekly, other are short blocks, you can discuss your interests and availability with the Creative Program Manager.
