Grow Wānaka is a circular model community garden project working towards a more food secure, resilient and waste free community, while providing education, and community connection through collective growing, learning and sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills.

They are seeking a new chairperson to provide governance and strategic oversight to the project. The role will involve:

  • Strategic financial oversight - ideally have experience in a financial chair of governance group role or as a qualified, practiced financial manager in an organisation.
  • Legal/Regulatory experience - either trained or work in legal practice/position, or similar board positions in the past, with the ability to support or provide this expertise.
  • Community garden development - experience in development of community gardens, or participation and/or connection to similar communities.
  • One annual meeting with The Outlet Camp and landowners
  • Maintaining current community relationships and building new ones as the project evolves.

You will be supported in the role by their passionate team including the long standing committee and garden project coordinator as well as former chairperson. Requirements

Ideally you are an open-minded, motivated individual passionate about regenerative food and community resilience. Skills and experience suited to the role are as follows:

  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Community centred and collaborative
  • Governance experience
  • Legal/Regulatory experience preferred
  • Ability for self-directed independent work as well as collaborative teamwork.
  • Active participation in the community garden
  • Updating reporting spreadsheets

Time commitment

  • 4 to 6 hours per month to prepare for board meetings, planning, board portfolios, and NSO events
  • 1 committee meeting per month in person or video call.
