ParaFed Otago provides support to people with a disability, primarily through organised sporting programmes, including wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, adaptive snow sports, swimming, athletics and many others.They have one fulltime employee (Sports Development Officer) who delivers the programmes and liaises/engages with the community. The SDO works actively with schools and tertiary education providers, delivering practical assistance and guidance.
They are seeking a Chairperson, who, along with other committee members, provides support to the SDO.

As the Chair you will be responsible for:

  • overseeing the SDO’s IEC
  • leading the committee (monthly meetings)
  • representing the organisation with the other regional ParaFeds and related organisations.

In this role there may be opportunities for professional development in governance, strategic planning, and supporting growth in disability sport opportunities for people living in Otago.

Requirements

Applicants will need:

  • A genuine commitment to help others
  • A willingness to learn
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Proficient communication and ability in advocacy
  • Experience in governance and strategic planning
  • Relevant legal knowledge, including Health and Safety, Privacy, Charities etc.
  • Knowledge of the disability sector would be useful but not essential
  • Experience with funding sources would be useful but not essential

Time commitment

12 hours per month.
