Happiness House is a community based, non-for-profit organisation that provides a wide variety of services, from community activities and a place to connect, through to advocacy and support navigation. All held within a warm, welcoming, and inclusive homelike environment open to the whole Whakatipu community.

The Trust is looking for a new trustee to join the board. This is a voluntary governance role and involves board meetings every two months in Queenstown. The board of trustees supports and ensures Happiness House stays on track in accordance with the long-term strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Oversight: Collaborate with other board members to guide the organisation’s strategic direction and ensure effective implementation of its mission.
  • Governance: Provide governance and oversight to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Support: Support to the team who is working on the ground.
  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate for Happiness House within the community and support fundraising and outreach efforts.
  • Expertise Contribution: Utilize your professional skills and experience to offer valuable insights and solutions to organisational challenges.

Requirements

Key qualities in a volunteer:

  • Someone who cares about the Queenstown community and wants to make a difference by getting involved at a decision-making level
  • Commitment to Mission: A passion for our community and a commitment to the mission of Happiness House.
  • Diverse Expertise: Skills or experience in areas such as social services, finance, law, human resources, fundraising, or strategic planning.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and contribute to a positive and productive board environment.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • A minimum of 2 hours of Trust Meetings every 2 months.
  • General ad hoc support/representation for Happiness House.
