Breakfast Cook

BLAST is a 9 week long boot camp-style fitness programme. The programme is a collaboration between Blue Light Aotearoa (via NZ Police) and the Alexandra and Districts Youth Trust Puna Rangatahi, held during Term 1 at Dunstan High School Gym. The programme focuses on resilience, team-building and confidence through a wide range of fitness activities and mental and physical challenges. Other predicted outcomes are a stronger sense of self and accomplishment, stronger connections between friends, and a strong work ethic and discipline.

They are looking for volunteers who enjoy early mornings to cook breakfast for up to 30 young people 3 mornings per week (Monday, Wednesday and Fridays).

In the morning the youth start training at 6am. They do a variety of different physical activities until 7.30 am. They will then come and see you for a hearty healthy breakfast whilst they listen to someone from our community give a motivational talk. After breakfast they will do their dishes and help you clean up the kitchen. This is when you will get a chance to meet the young people and hear about all the amazing things they have been doing.

The BLAST programme likes to give the students a hearty breakfast as 1 - a reward for their hard work and 2 - they believe that a good breakfast sets a young person up well for learning during the school day.

You will be working in a team with at least one other volunteer and a staff member from either Puna Rangatahi or the Police. The cooked breakfast, which depending on what ingredients they have been given from Kiwi Harvest will range from bacon and eggs, hash browns, waffles and croissants to good old toast and weetbix. The team will work together to create a weekly menu and if needed provide recipes and inspiration. All the food will be provided, so you do not need to worry about doing the shopping!
