Dementia Mate Wareware HomeShare service is a collaborative initiative that brings together a network of providers and agencies across the South island, with a shared commitment to enhancing the life of a person with dementia and their family. They plan fun, engaging activities for people with dementia with the aim to enrich not only their lives but to give their caregivers a break.

Volunteers are needed to support a host run a small group session for early onset dementia clients. The group will meet once a week for the morning to share food and a fun activity. With guidance from your host you will help run different activities weekly with art, planting, music, walks, community outings to name a few.

The Dementia HomeShare Supporter role involves:

  • Helping the host set up the activities.
  • Welcoming and helping participants settle as they arrive.
  • Interacting with participants and helping them to enjoy the program.
  • Helping to serve coffee/tea and food.
  • Tidying up after activities, and the lunch meal.

Time commitment

  • Group session are Mondays from 10am-2pm. Ideally you would be available 9.30am-2.30pm and be collected by van to travel to and from the venue with group participants.
  • If you need to be away this can be worked around with other volunteers as they work as a team.
  • Held at Whakatipu Senior Citizens rooms in Central Queenstown.
  • Transport can be provided to and from the venue (as above).
