Abbeyfield Wanaka is affiliated with Abbeyfield New Zealand Inc – the parent body for Abbeyfield in New Zealand. They plan to build an Abbeyfield House in Wanaka in the next eighteen months. There are currently 14 Abbeyfield houses in New Zealand providing a home to 161 residents. Abbeyfield House allow for independent living for the over 65’s in a social environment and is an affordable option for people with limited assets and income.

In this early stage of setting up as an incorporated society, they are looking for a Secretary to join the Steering Committee who are a group of dedicated individuals working towards this essential need in the Upper Clutha.

Your key tasks will include:

  • Being a support to the Chair
  • Setting up meetings (on Teams Calendar)
  • Communicating agendas, minutes, and actions with comittee
  • Taking accurate and detailed minutes at meetings
  • Following up on actions and processes
  • Contribute to establishing key processes as the organisation is still in early stages of incorporation
  • Liaising with Abbeyfield national office to adapt existing processes to Abbeyfield Wanaka

You will be inducted into your role by a passionate and multi-talented steering committee, and support as you get to know your role and systems. You will be an equal member of the steering Committee, and have the opportunity to model the organisation by contributing to establishing systems and processes. Your contribution will be essential to achieving the goal of providing safe and secure housing for elderly in the community, and assuring a quality of life not currently available to this demographic.

Requirements

  • A passion for well-being of elderly
  • Computer proficiency (own laptop/desktop and phone)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams would be helpful, but not essential if you have used other similar software
  • Knowledge of Charities Sector helpful, but can be supported in learning from other committee members
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Enjoy working in a team
  • Task-oriented with great attention to detail

Time commitment

  • Meetings are monthly, an hour or so
  • Admin in between meetings will average 5 hrs a month or so
  • Your involvement is flexible to your availability
