Youth Search and Rescue (YSAR) is a youth development organization committed to nurturing the future generation of community volunteers in the Search and Rescue (SAR) and Emergency Management (EM) sectors. They offer a comprehensive three-year training program for secondary school students, featuring a combination of Wednesday evening classroom sessions during the first three school terms, augmented by six practical weekend exercises throughout the year, culminating in a five-day end-of-year exercise. Volunteer instructors deliver these sessions both in classrooms on-site with sector partners and in outdoor settings.

The Dunedin branch of YSAR is currently seeking a volunteer Branch Manager. The primary responsibility of the Branch Manager is to coordinate the instructor and parent support team (Local Operations Committee - LOC), ensuring smooth local operations. This includes tasks such as ensuring the instructor team have the necessary resources for class delivery and distributing communications regarding upcoming exercises to parents and students promptly.

Requirements

This role is well-suited for an individual with:

  • excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • ability to engage and inspire young people and their families.
  • capable of maximizing team performance.
  • familiarity with online platforms like Microsoft Teams (or willingness to learn).
  • full driver’s license.
  • clean police vetting.

The Branch Manager will receive support from a small paid national office team.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Time commitment may vary but will average 2-3 hours per week.
  • Attendance at most Wednesday night classroom sessions (Terms 1-3 during term time) and most of the weekend training exercises (about every 6 weeks Feb-Oct) would be desirable if possible.
