Treasurer

Lakes Multicultural Collective (Formerly The Kiwi Kit Community Trust) is a local charitable trust on a mission to support and empower migrants, unite the whole community, and celebrate diversity in the Queenstown Lakes District, through events and ongoing programs that fill the gaps identified across the community. They operate on the following core values:

WHANAUNGATANGA | Sense of Belonging & Connection
TIAKI | Taking Care of People & Nature
MANA MANAAKI | Building the Mana of Others, Through Nurturing, Growing, and Challenging

They are currently seeking a Treasurer, and as part of their governing board you'll have the opportunity to leverage collective expertise and resources to maximise impact and reach within the community. Their board has recently recruited 3 new members, all of whom bring fresh perspective and skills, and will be supported by existing members, and collectively make a great team to be a part of.

If you have some knowledge of finance/accounting, but not in the charity space, the existing board can provide support and training to help you apply your skills. There is opportunity to learn as you go, as long as you are motivated to do so and contribute to the core cause of the organisation!

Key duties of this role are as follows.

  • Financial Management and Record-Keeping (bookkeeping processes)
  • Budgeting, Financial Planning and Monitoring in collaboration with other board members
  • Financial Reporting including presenting at board meetings, contributing to performance reports
  • Maintaining financial transparency within the organisation
  • Ensure the trust complies with all relevant financial laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns and other statutory filings.
  • Liaise with external auditors during financial audits.
  • Manage the trust's bank accounts and oversee cash flow to ensure seamless operations
  • Explore and implement investment strategies for surplus funds in accordance with the trust's policies.
  • Collaborate with fundraising teams to ensure proper accounting of donations and grants.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, and prepare accountability reports
  • Identify financial risks and propose strategies to mitigate them (eg. insurance coverage, adjusting strategies etc.)
  • Participate actively in board meetings, providing insights on financial implications of strategic decisions.
  • Advise on the financial feasibility of proposed projects or initiatives.
  • Support other trustees in understanding financial reports and concepts.

This is a great opportunity to join an evolving board and have input in the future direction of the organisation as they grow their commitment to celebrating and supporting diversity in the Queenstown Lakes community through events and initiatives informed by the multicultural community's needs.

Requirements

  • Enjoy a collaborative working environment
  • Have a genuine interest and desire to build a connected, multicultural community
  • Have an interest in migrant and newcomer support
  • Have knowledge of financial skills listed above, or a willingness to build on existing knowledge

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Board meetings once a month
  • Any actions in between board meetings in your own time
