Treasurer/Trustee for Life Education Trust Coastal Otago

About Us:
Life Education Trust Coastal Otago empowers young people with knowledge about health and well-being through engaging, life-changing education programs. Our mission is to inspire tamariki (children) to make positive choices for a bright future.

The Role:
As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in overseeing the financial health of Life Education Trust. You’ll work closely with their Board and Education Support Manager to ensure resources are managed effectively, enabling them to continue delivering high-quality programs to schools in the Otago region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Trust's financial records, including preparing monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and tracking income/expenditure.
  • Ensure compliance with financial and reporting requirements (e.g., charities compliance).
  • Support funding applications and financial accountability reporting for grants.
  • Attend board meetings (6-weekly) and provide insights into financial decision-making.

Requirements

  • Experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping is ideal but not required.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit financial reporting (or a willingness to learn).
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, to work effectively with the Board.
  • A genuine interest in supporting youth-focused education programs.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Approximately 2-4 hours per week, including attending 6-weekly board meetings and assisting with financial reporting.
