Library Assistant

The Central Otago Education Centre (COEC) is a community run, not-for-profit organisation which was established in 1977 to provide a professional development and resource library support for teachers in Otago and Southland. They currently have 43 members which are predominantly Primary Schools as well as a few Secondary Schools, Area Schools and Early Childhood Centres.

The COEC library is usually open 6 hours a week and they rely on volunteers to support the Administrator/Librarian with maintaining a well organised library.

As a Library Assistant you would be helping to:

  • Count in resources such as books, lego, and puzzles that have been returned by member schools.
  • Check that resources are complete, tidy and ready for use by the next borrower.
  • Reshelf resources.
  • Keep the library space tidy and functional.

Additional opportunities are available for those who are creative, love to bounce ideas around, and/or have experience in marketing or experience in funding.

Requirements

No previous library experience is required.

This role would suit someone:

  • Who has the ability to work on their own but as part of a team.
  • With good attention to detail and organisational skills.

Time commitment

  • 2-3 hours on a Tuesday or Thursday morning 10am-1pm.
  • Flexibility to fit in with your availability.
