Board Chair - Championing Youth Wellbeing

Puna Rangatahi Alexandra & Districts Youth Trust is a youth development organisation based in Central Otago. They support rangatahi aged 10-24 and their whanau to access resources, information, opportunities and guidance. They offer in-school wellbeing groups, one-to-one mentoring, rainbow support, school holidays events, community events and much more!

They are seeking a committed and community-minded Board Chair to lead their board and help guide strategic direction, uphold good governance, and support the continued growth and sustainability of this vibrant and values-driven rōpū.

As Board Chair, you will:

  • Facilitate quarterly board meetings and ensure productive, inclusive discussion.
  • Provide support and strategic partnership to the Manager.
  • Oversee governance responsibilities such as policy, risk, and compliance.
  • Champion the kaupapa and act as a key connector between the board, operations team, and wider community.
  • Support succession planning, board development, and a positive team culture.

You’ll work closely with the Manager, Treasurer, and other board members, and will help hold a clear line between governance and operations. This is a leadership role that also values collaboration and shared responsibility.

Requirements

  • Values-driven and believes in equitable outcomes for youth and whānau.
  • Ideally have some leadership experience in governance or not-for-profit environments (but not essential).
  • Is collaborative, reliable, and passionate about making a difference.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Approx 2-4 hours per month including meetings.
