Queenstown Arts Society (QAS) is an iconic and trusted society in the Whakatipu area with over 60 years standing in the local and regional creative community. It is a community-oriented charitable trust operating to provide opportunities and break barriers to participation for the local community to access and explore their creativity in the field of visual arts through public exhibitions and education. QAS is a resident of Te Atamira in Frankton. They work at the coalface of initiatives like Te Muka Toi, Te Muka Takata, the Creativity, Culture and Heritage Strategy for the Queenstown Lakes District recently adopted by QLDC.

The Treasurer role is a committee position and pivotal to the successful and continued running of the society. Arts knowledge is not required but a curiosity and interest in visual arts based creativity would be synergistic. The committee have collective responsibility for events put on by the society so being part of the team means also being willing to step up to some different tasks at these times with a few more hours required.

The Treasurer role involves:

  • Attending monthly committee meetings
  • Preparing and presenting treasurer reports at committee meetings and at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Supporting the committee with other tasks in running events.

Training by the incumbent Treasurer, and on-going support from other committee members will be provided.

Benefits of volunteering:

  • Satisfaction in providing these arts-based opportunities with as much inclusion and fun as possible.
  • The knowledge that these opportunities increase wellbeing and self identity for many people.

  • Being part of a friendly and well organised team.

Ideally you will have:

  • some basic accounting experience
  • knowledge of how to use Xero accounting
  • patience, understanding and respect of the committee process
  • the ability to work independently and in a timely manner

Enjoyment or appreciation of art will definitely be a bonus to bring to the role.
