Do you have a knack for organising, great people skills, or a passion for your community? This is your chance to be part of a team in one of the most meaningful days of the year. Daffodil Day is the Cancer Society’s largest annual fundraiser — and we need someone like you to help bring it to life in Cromwell or Arrowtown.
As an Coordinator, you’ll be key to making it all happen. You’ll help ( with our support) organise volunteers, manage resources, and support local collection efforts in the lead-up to 29 August, then help lead the team on the big day.
It’s also a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event coordination and the not-for-profit sector—perfect for building your CV while giving back.
In this role, you’ll be supported to:
- Work with businesses and organisations in the lead up to Daffodil Day to promote event
- Organising collection sites and liaising with existing volunteer collectors
- Managing monies received (collection buckets/pre-sales/counter boxes)
- Managing resources and merchandise
- Implementing established systems with existing partners
- Identifying new opportunities in the local community
- Attending the Daffodil Day debrief/planning meetings where applicable

Daffodil Day is the Cancer Society's biggest fundraising event and the funds raised in the lead up to and on the day itself help to reduce the impact and incidence of cancer through a range of activities such as funding research, education, advocacy and support for those affected by cancer and their whānau.
Requirements
- Ability to work comfortably alongside people from varying social, religious and cultural backgrounds
- Clear verbal/written communication skills
- Organised and detail-oriented, great at problem solving
- Commitment to following national and divisional Daffodil Day standards & complying with relevant policies & procedures
- Ability to create a fun and vibrant event in your community and be part of a team
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
Hours will vary based on your own availability but below is an indication of what might be required:
- May: Training and communication: 2-4 hours
- June/July: 2-4 hours
- August: 5-10 hours (including a full day on Daffodil Day, 29th August - approx 8hrs). These hours can vary depending on your availability, the number of people in your team, and the elements of Daffodil Day you decide to activate in your community.
- Debriefing activities: 2- 6 hours
