FUNduro is a fun, non-competitive downhill biking event for local youth at Herbert Forest. Marshals are stationed along the course to direct riders and offer encouragement. At the finish, everyone including riders and volunteers is invited to enjoy a complimentary BBQ and drinks.

Mountain Biking North Otago (MTBNO) is the heart of local mountain biking, a volunteer-led group that builds and maintains trails like Cape Wanbrow, Oamaru Reservoir, and Herbert Forest. They also organise community rides and events, ensuring biking thrives in North Otago.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 13
  • Friendly, encouraging attitude
  • Able to walk on uneven ground for 1km or more
  • Reasonable level of physical fitness
  • Bring warm clothing, food, water, and a cell phone for emergencies
  • You're welcome to bring a bike to get to your marshal point
  • Can work in pairs if desired, although numbers are limited
  • Transport provided from Oamaru for those volunteering from 10am to 2pm
  • A 2-hour volunteer slot is available if you’re unable to commit to the full shift
