Dunedin Budget Advisory Service (DBAS) helps people across the greater Dunedin area to confidently manage their own finances through education, advice, and support.
The Role:
DBAS is looking for community-minded people to join its Governance Committee. The committee provides strategic oversight and guidance to ensure the organisation continues to deliver trusted and effective budgeting services. Committee members share responsibility for the organisation’s strategic direction, policies, and governance, working closely with the Chairperson, fellow members, and the Executive Officer.
What You'll Do:
- Attend and participate in monthly committee meetings (approx. 10 per year)
- Review and guide financial and strategic decisions
- Help shape policies and maintain oversight of the organisation’s direction
- Promote DBAS within the community
- Provide advice and contribute to special projects when needed
- Ensure effective communication within the committee and organisation

Requirements
- Integrity, honesty, and a collaborative mindset
- Knowledge of the Dunedin community and the environment in which DBAS operates
- Willingness to learn about the organisation and its operations, including its constitution and policies
- Commitment to DBAS’s mission, values, and governance procedures
- Ability to attend and participate in monthly committee meetings (approx. 10 per year)
- Confidence using basic IT tools
- Willingness to provide additional time for special projects or tasks when needed
- Ability to declare any conflicts of interest when relevant
- Ability to delegate or seek professional advice as appropriate
A Police background check is required for this role.
