Fundraising & Projects Lead

Organisation:

Abbeyfield Wanaka

Category:

Fundraising

Hours:

Both/Flexible

Locations:

Wānaka, Hāwea

Wanaka is a place people build their lives in, but for many, it’s becoming a place they can’t afford to grow old in. This role is a chance to help change that.

By contributing your time, energy, and ideas, you’ll be part of a small group working to address a critical housing shortage for people over 65 who rely on NZ Super. The funds you help raise will directly support the creation of an Abbeyfield house — a place where older people can live independently, with dignity, connection, and a sense of belonging.

About the role:
Abbeyfield Wanaka are looking for a motivated, ideas-driven volunteer who is ready to roll up their sleeves and take ownership of fundraising initiatives.

You’ll work alongside their Fundraising Lead and a small, committed team contributing to existing projects while also bringing your own ideas to life. If you’re someone who sees opportunities and runs with them, this role will suit you.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Helping deliver existing fundraising activities and events
  • Generating new ideas and leading your own fundraising projects
  • Taking ownership of initiatives from concept through to delivery
  • Working collaboratively with a small, supportive team
  • Building relationships with local businesses, groups, and supporters
  • Supporting event coordination and on-the-ground delivery when needed

Why this role matters:
This is more than volunteering. It’s an opportunity to give back to your community in a meaningful way, to be part of something tangible, and to leave a lasting legacy.

Years from now, people will be living well in a home that exists because of the work you were part of.

Requirements

  • A self-starter who enjoys taking initiative
  • Someone creative, with fresh ideas and the drive to make them happen
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A team player who communicates well and collaborates easily
  • Confidence to engage with the community and build connections
  • Experience in fundraising, events, or partnerships is helpful, but not essential
  • Someone with the time and genuine desire to give back to the community

Time commitment

  • Approximately 8–10 hours per week, with flexibility around when you work
  • Primarily work from home, with occasional involvement in local events
  • Option to attend monthly steering group meetings (approx. 60 minutes)
