The Rothesay News is a free community newspaper connecting West Harbour communities — from Ravensbourne to Port Chalmers, Aramoana, and Purakaunui — by sharing updates on local projects, school activities, and upcoming events. The Rothesay News is published 11 times a year and is usually 12 pages.

The Rothesay News committee is seeking a computer savvy person with excellent English skills to be their proof reader.

The Proof Reader role involves:

  • Proofing the newspaper on-screen at the editors house in Port Chalmers.
  • Editing, rewriting as necessary, and formatting using Publisher, to bring the copy up to the final publishing standard.
  • Approximately one hour, once a month, January to November at approximately the same time each month.

The proof reader is welcome to attend their monthly committee meetings, held at the Port Chalmers Town Hall on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, February-November.

Requirements

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is interested in being part of the publishing of a free community newspaper.
  • Has excellent computer and English literacy skills so the final copy is perfect before publishing occurs.
  • Is reliable and can commit to the role each month in Port Chalmers.
  • Lives on the West Harbour, or close to this area.

Time commitment

Approximately one hour each month - January through to November in Port Chalmers.
