Children’s Recreational Enterprise Support Trust (CREST) is a fully independent registered charity that was established in 1992. CREST provides enjoyable and informative rides for everyone at the Dunedin Botanic Garden and seeks to enhance people’s experience of a beautiful place! Profits generated from the Novelty Train are used to help provide support for children in need who live in the Dunedin area.

As a CREST Novelty Train Driver, you will be:

  • Meeting and greeting locals and visitors
  • Cash handling - receiving cash payment only for rides
  • Driving the Train: Bluebell and the Electric Shuttle: Shuttle Bug
  • Transporting passengers of all ages through the pedestrian precincts of the lower Dunedin Botanic Garden
  • Occasionally assist some passengers aboard using a box step or ramps (not a difficult task)
  • Helping to provide all passengers with an enjoyable experience in a beautiful setting
  • Providing passengers with a commentary is desirable, but not essential

Training provided:

  • Full CREST training and support will be provided

Requirements

  • A sense of humour and patience
  • Willingness to learn and be guided by the rules and bylaws of CREST and the Dunedin Botanic Garden
  • A genuine liking for people of all ages/nationalities
  • A sense of commitment and responsibility
  • Minimum age is 20 and a full driver’s license is required
  • A mature manner is essential - this role is ideal for retirees (reasonable mobility and fitness required)

  • All drivers undergo a Police Check

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • To suit: Usually one day or half-day per week - weather permitting
  • Summer Hours: (Oct- March) 10:30am to 3:30pm daily
  • Winter Hours: (April - Sept) 11am to 2:30pm daily
