Volunteer Support Worker

Victim Support is an independent incorporated society that provides a free 24 / 7 community response to help victims of serious crime and trauma. Volunteers are at the heart of our service.

Their free service provides emotional and practical support, information, referral to other support services and advocacy for the rights of victims. This support helps victims find strength, hope and safety in the face of grief and trauma at what may be the worst time of their life.

Volunteers will walk alongside victims following a crime or traumatic incident. This can be done by:

  • Being a listening ear.
  • Providing non-judgmental support through challenging times.
  • Being an advocate.
  • Assessing their needs using the Te Whare Tapa Wha holistic model.
  • Making referrals to other agencies that can assist with things that fall out of our scope.
  • Providing court support or support with the Restorative Justice Process.

Any volunteers interested will undertake an interview, a police check and referees are required. Comprehensive training is provided and all travel costs incurred whilst volunteering will be paid by Victim Support.
