The volunteers would attend on those days/times that our Cable Car Building is open to the public, and would assist the Lead Volunteer from our Society. The role is to welcome visitors, to show them the cable cars we have on site, to invite them on board the cable car trailer, and to explain to visitors our aim to bring the cable cars back into service. Those of mechanical bent could explain the workings of the cable cars to interested visitors.
Friendly personality, to deal with the public.
An informed intelligence, and a willingness to learn about the cable car history Mechanical knowledge an advantage, but not necessary.
Interim Cable Car Building, 162 Eglinton Road, Mornington, Dunedin
Tidy casual. We provide badges saying "Cable Car Team"
We invite volunteers to read the material on our website, www.dunedincablecars.co.nz, in order to become familiar with the aims and history of the project. We also have a Facebook contact, www.facebook.com/MorningtonCableCars
Otherwise, training is on site, by observing how our Lead staff deal with the public, and volunteers then becoming more involved as they become familiar with the process.
Our days/times of opening are rather fluid, and depend upon the availability of out Lead Volunteer staff (a small group, presently 5 people). But currently, we aim to open our site from midday to 3 on weekends and Mondays. Other days of the week may happen, if/when our lead staff indicate availability. One of our group phones around the week prior, to see who is available, and a roster is then uploaded to the website: see www.dunedincablecars.co.nz/volunteer.html
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
