Cinema ticketers

Central Cinema

Central Cinema is a community cinema based in the ODT Theatre at Central Stories in the heart of Alexandra.  The cinema screens current mainstream and art house movies, runs occasional film festivals and can source films requested by the community.  Central Cinema uses state of the art digital projection with excellent surround sound in a comfortable, warm and cosy environment.

Films are shown at least 5 times weekly with special screenings and other events on a regular basis.

Central Cinema is run entirely by volunteers and is fully self-funded.  We are passionate about what we do and believe that bringing movies to people in Central Otago is a very valuable social service.

Volunteers are needed to sell tickets, food and beverages, balance the takings and reporting the figures back to the committee.

Volunteers gain satisfaction from contributing to the arts and providing a community service. Many enjoy the interaction with the public and hone their customer service and communication skills. Volunteers meet other people, have fun, see movies and feel good about doing something for the community.

Volunteers should be a minimum 16 years old and able to relate and present well to the general public, have a friendly manner, be reliable, honest and tolerant.

Retail experience an advantage but not essential - ticketers are required to handle money and operate EFTPOS machines.

Full training is provided until volunteers are confident and competent in their role.  Supervision and support is available as needed.

Time commitment

Ticketer roles are rostered among about 25 volunteers. Commitment required is 2.5 hours per screening, 1-3 times per month.  Must be able to commit for at least 6 months.
