Hours:

Working Hours

Locations:

Wānaka

Led entirely by volunteers the Wanaka Walking School bus enables children attending Wanaka Primary School and Holy Family Catholic School to walk to school each day under the supervision of a responsible adult.

This keeps cars of the road and ensure children can walk safely to school, exercised and ready to learn.

Volunteers work on a roster system and walk with the the children along the designated route, having a friendly chat but giving clear instructions and encouraging road safety awareness.

We hope volunteers enjoy their role, have fun chatting to the children in the mornings and gain satisfaction from being connected to the children of Wanaka Primary and Holy Family Schools. Volunteers will also interact with other members of the community and gain an awareness of the local neighbourhood.

Requirements

Volunteers should have good communication skills and be happy interacting with children. A genuine interest, liking and understanding of children is essential. Volunteers should have an awareness of road safety and personal safety and value the safety and welfare of children.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Volunteers walk with children from Mt Iron subdivision (Anderson Road) to Wanaka Primary School and occasionally onto Holy Family School every week day morning during term time departing at 8.25am, finishing by 9am. Most volunteers walk one or more mornings a week and have a regular day but relievers are also welcome.
