Since 1883, The Salvation Army has fought poverty and social and spiritual distress in New Zealand. They’ve been there to help more than 120,000 families and individuals in need each year—with budgeting advice, food and clothing assistance, life skills programmes and other comfort and support. In Alexandra the services the Salvation Army provides include running the second hand retail store, food bank and community garden.
A volunteer is needed to undertake handiwork around the church buildings on an as required basis. All tools and materials supplied. Only for minor repair works, any majors are undertaken by paid qualified tradespeople.
Volunteers will gain an ongoing use and possible development of existing trade skills. Self satisfaction from knowing you are supporting people in need and a worthwhile cause.
Volunteers interested in the role should have/be:

Usually undertaken during weekdays on an as required basis. Often nothing for a few months and then a couple of things in quick succession.
